What kind of qualification type is it?
This qualification is a nationwide standardised advanced vocational training. Vocational education and training in Germany has a multi-level system of advanced vocational training qualifications which are regulated in a nationally standardised manner. Within the scope of regulated advanced training, three advanced training levels are differentiated with regard to competence requirements and the associated differing areas of possible company deployment. They usually require completion of a vocational qualification (in a recognised training occupation and/or recognised advance vocational training) or evidence of a comparable qualification. This then serves as the basis of the qualifications. Those completing the qualifications are equipped for the autonomous and responsible assumption of demanding tasks.
This type of qualification includes the specialist profiles regulated by the Ordinance on Vocational Education and Training in the Information and Telecommunications Technology sector (IT Advanced Training Ordinance). Continuing training leading to the qualification of IT specialist forms the first level of the IT continuing training system pursuant to the IT Advanced Training Ordinance.
IT specialists are in possession of competences for the autonomous planning and processing of comprehensive professional tasks in the complex, specialised and changing occupational field of activity of information and telecommunications technology. They are able to develop concepts and autonomous solutions in a specialised area, structure work processes within a team and assume the necessary economic responsibility for this purpose.
Which competent authority issues the qualification certificate?
The qualification can be achieved by a certificate issued by a competent body, a personal certificate, by a course certificate or by a employers certificate.
What are the entry requirements?
There are not usually any entry requirements. Particular prior vocational training is not statutorily stipulated. The prerequisite is a sufficient level of qualification on the basis of relevant professional experience or relevant professional experience in the IT sector.
How is the qualification acquired?
Work process-oriented continuing training is an essential element of the IT continuing training system. This takes place in the form of projects within the company. Continuing training is conducted via self-directed study at the company. Supplementary workshops, day seminars and individual training courses are staged. Participation in preparatory courses is not mandatory for certification. The duration of the continuing training is not stipulated and may therefore vary. Experience has shown a duration of approximately 6 months.
What follow-up options are there?
After acquisition of the qualification and gaining relevant practical experience, those completing the qualification are able to move on to state-regulated upgrading training at the second level of the IT continuing training system (qualification type “Operative Professionals”) pursuant to the IT Advanced Training Ordinance, for example certified IT developer.
