What kind of qualification type is it?
This qualification is a higher education/university degree. A system of tiered qualifications has been agreed upon in the European Higher Education Area. These are Bachelor degrees, Master’s degrees and doctorates.
Master is the title given to academic qualifications which are awarded following successful completion of the second cycle according to the German Higher Education Qualifications Framework and the qualifications frameworks of the European Higher Education Area. Persons acquiring academic degrees at Master’s level are qualified for a career in academic research or for activities on the labour market. The usual period of study is a minimum of one year and a maximum of two years, equivalent to 60 and 120 ECTS points respectively (normally a total of 300 ECTS points).
Which competent authority issues the qualification certificate?
The university, where the final examination took place, issues the diploma including the Diploma Supplement.
What are the entry requirements?
For the base courses of study (traditional German courses of higher education study such as the first degrees of “Diplom” or “Magister”, State Examinations):
- higher education entrance qualification
- in accordance with federal state regulations on access to higher education for applicants with vocational qualifications who are not in possession of a school-based higher education entrance qualification
For the Master’s level: first cycle degree at least at Bachelor level plus further entry requirements to be defined by the institute of higher education.
How is the qualification acquired?
Successful completion of a Master’s course of study in accordance with the examination regulations.
